The store's meats department is continuously becoming one of the worst. It makes me think twice if to go for weekly groceries to the store.

The choice is poor. Beef and chicken meat is not looking fresh with very limited choice and high prices.

Attached pictures I took today. You don't need to be a professional butcher to see that yellow spots on the chicken meat and grey spots on the beef meat are screaming to stay away from it.

Every single time there is a flyer special on meat (especially steak) this store brings in a small quantity the first day, then sells out and doesn’t have any for the remaining 3 days of the sale. When asked they say “we ran out the first day and the warehouse doesn’t have any more”. The Independent in Smith Falls and in Ottawa were never like this. Highest prices and worst selection in town by far. Can’t wait for some competition to open up and put these guys out of business.

This review is for the bakery. I'm not picky with this stuff whatsoever. But the bakery called me saying their edible ink printer broke., so they had to decorate my baptism cake by hand. Ok whatever, I don't care..they're bakers, I'm sure it'll look fine. Baptism decor is usually white...right? And it's for 2 girls so I said pink trim was fine. Umm lol, I think their cake decorator lacks creativity and maybe common sense? Hot coral pink and yellow for a baptism? Ugliest cake ever. Delicious though!

Disappointed that no local fruits or vegetables are sold although it is the season. Lots of the US produce in the store when there are local berries, peaches, cucumbers and many other things available in Kanata or Ottawa counterparts. Even less motivation to shop in Carleton Place.

Absolutely terrible since the new owners *the kids* took over. Can't get any service or quality foods we enjoy anymore. 4 times to the ready made food section to see fryers shut down and 1 person working the counter. Don't waste your time coming here for a quick supper anymore.

**Buyer Beware** Went to the Independent Grocer in Carleton Place to return my two 18 litre Labrador Spring Water Jugs for my deposit (It was a return of 2 X $10.00). To be told by the manager on duty that “they don’t give you money anymore for the return of jugs”. He told me there is nothing he can do about it and suggested I speak to the store manager the next day. Did just that and received the same reply with the added comment from the manager that “ I am sure you can get money for your jugs somewhere” This is also after he mentioned to me that many customers have screamed at him because of this…So please be careful not to fall for this trap! Shame on you for misleading customers!

ROTTON MEAT!! If I could give a zero to the assistant manager in the meat department and the assistant General manager Graham I would. This was 3:45pm today. They basically laughed at me for being offended by them selling me ROTTON CHICKEN. Also, the elderly lady with nose piercings and bleached blonde hair laughed at me while I was try to speak to management. Disgusting customer service. I would like the owner to reach out to me.

No hand baskets!!! I’m on the verge of boycotting Independent stores altogether for the lack of hand baskets!!! They got rid of them as a marketing ploy assuming that people will spend more money if they take a cart instead of a basket. Jokes on them as people like myself that only come in for a few things only end up spending less money while we’re there as we have no hand baskets to alleviate the load in our arms!!! If I’m going to be forced to use a cart, I’ll go to Walmart or Costco!!!
