We had a very bad experience with a rental found on Oros website. We met with Oro properties (cindy - oro’s owner who ended up being the landlord) to see the home and she misrepresented who the guys living in the basement were (In our opinion). We found out after moving in they had been giving multiple eviction notices for loud noise prior to us moving in and during our stay. Living here was a nightmare. Kitchen sink leaked/AC didn’t work the day we moved in. We understand things go wrong but It always felt as if we were bugging the landlords and they always seemed to take their time
to fix things on their own schedule not with any urgency. Our daughter started getting up at 3/4 am because she would be woken up by the basement tenants. When we politely asked out of our lease with 90 days notice because it was effecting our LIFE she stated no.. this was her business and she’d take legal action against us if we left. We don’t even know what that legal action would be so we switched rooms with our then almost 2 yr old (she got the master that was over top our house and we got the room over the basement tenant) and it was horrible! I could hear them come and go all night and even
When they used their bathroom!! (They would complain about our sound too) There was no soundproofing in our opinion. We ended up PAYING her to find tenants so we could leave and get a normal life back. 450$ which she would have done when our lease was up anyway.
We had a skunk live under the house that sprayed, had our washing machine break and when she had someone come fix it she wasn’t happy with the price so her husband and her came to take apart the washing machine in our dining room!Which didn’t work and she ended up buying one. During a pandemic! No washing machine for a week+! There was NO heat in the bathroom (no heat vent and the electric heater was broken) she said it was supplemental and to leave the bathroom door open for heat. The heating was a nightmare, the thermostat is on the other tenants side and they use supplemental heaters (they want their house at 28C) which makes the thermostat temp higher and the furnace wouldn’t kick on. Our windows froze upstairs which scared me in case of fire and it took her a week or more to fix it. The fire alarms would go off for the first bit (even at 3am) because the batteries kept dying and would even ask tenants to remove batteries or replace themselves. We were also contacted by the city saying there were complaints the property wasn’t listed as two rentals..they had forgot to do that. Then had the audacity to ask if we had been fighting with any neighbours! We contacted Oro properties when we couldn’t get ahold of Cindy and that was a problem but when she went on vacation we were told to contact oro if needed which is very confusing.
Maybe Oro properties needs to do a better job of screening landlords/properties to be sure they are of best quality before putting them on their website?
I did not hire Oro properties for their tenant find services but I DID use
their services/website to find a rental and I was unhappy with the landlord/home I was rented.
Remember Oro properties is a tenant finding service - so if your a landlord looking for tenants it’s probably a good fit but if your a tenant looking for a good landlord I’d look elsewhere! We did not have a good experience.
