Honest review:

Our experience in the beginning of our Citadel Homes journey was top notch. Super friendly, helpful, and attentive. We cleared 2 acres of our 3 acre lot by hand and hired our own excavation guy for stump removal, lot prep, well, septic, and driveway. The reason why we went with Citadel Homes/Kent Homes was because of the 2022 Maeva floor plan. It was the BEST floor plan we could find to meet most of what we wanted as our forever home. We looked at every floor plan we could find online through various modular homes manufacturers. I uploaded the existing floor plan to a paint program and altered it by adding a garage, adding 2 feet to the length of the house, replacing the walk-in pantry with a half bathroom just off the garage, removed the linen closet in the hallway, added a laundry room sink, moved the refrigerator to a different location, moved the dishwasher to a different location, added a patio door in the master bedroom, added a window in the master bedroom, etc. We bought our own kitchen and laundry sinks as well as all the light fixtures. We had many frustrations and delays throughout which was partly due to Kent Homes mucking around with our floor plan version and forcing it to be changed to the 2023 Maeva design. It resulted in a lot of back and forth between both Citadel Homes and Kent Homes with us caught in the middle. Some errors Kent Homes made to some of our choices we just gave up the fight. There was quite a bit of communication breakdown after the deposit was provided the first week of December 2023. Our modular home delivery date changed many times due to the delays with Kent Homes. It finally landed May 29. The finishing crew was lackluster with their skills and maybe showed up 2 days each week for the first 3 months. They had to redo a lot of their work. We are not a professional construction crew but we spent the past 8 years renovating each room and outside our previous home to sell to purchase this new home and we were shaking our heads everytime we came to the site to see the progress and work completed. We were renting a home just up the road so we were here every day which Citadel Homes did not seem to appreciate as we communicated so many issues for the 16 weeks until occupancy but I am glad we kept on top of it. The new project manager was arrogant, all talk, little action, and fell off the radar for most of the project. After a lot of perseverance of unanswered emails and texts finally the Citadel Homes owner took over managing the project and that is when we started to see some real progress and our sanity almost restored as he could see the issues we were reporting was not quality work during on site visits with us. Honestly, in this day and age post COVID, this tends to happen to everyone going through the process of a new build. I am not sure why this has become the standard for lack of care in quality of finish work. Needless to say, in the end you will have a beautiful home to make it all worth it in the end. We are grateful for the Citadel Homes owner to step up, and take charge but it was also a lot of pushing on our end as well. We stuck to our guns to have our needs met. Afterall, we were spending a very large amount of money in the end. Today marks the 2 month mark of moving into the beautiful 2022 floor plan version of the Maeva. We have already built the back deck and next year we will cover and screen in 2 sections of it. One larger section off the dining room will be for seating, dining and BBQing and a smaller section off the master bedroom will be our private deck to house our future hot tub and a little seating area.

Overall good, but improvements could be made.

Our experience with Citadel Homes started off great. The selection, contract, and financial processes were straightforward and honest, with no pressure or upselling. We began construction on April 1st, with an estimated timeline of 3-5 months. This fit our schedule, as we needed to move in by early September before our October wedding.

Initially, communication was clear, but as the project progressed, updates became sparse. Our original delivery date was July 2nd, but we received few updates and often had to visit the site ourselves to check on progress. Despite emails and questions throughout the summer, responses were inconsistent. The home was completed on August 17th, but final handover wasn’t until late September, forcing us to move just a week before our wedding—a very stressful experience. Delays happen in construction, but more updates would have allowed us to prepare better.

Most of our questions and issues were straightforward, but the lack of communication and timely responses caused them to escalate much further than necessary.

Citadel acknowledged these communication issues, and some improvements were made, but gaps remained with the primary customer contact. Based on others’ experiences in our area, communication is a common challenge with this person, though most people were ultimately satisfied with the overall experience as were we.

Closing day was also a little frustrating, but that was more due to their lawyers not being prepared to close on the agreed-upon date rather than the Citadel team itself. However, after all the delays and frustrations, it didn’t make the day very pleasant.

That said, the finished product is excellent, and we are very happy with our home. With better client communication, Citadel could truly be great. We would recommend them but advise staying proactive and prepare for potential delays.

We also really appreciated some of their staff, who definitely helped make our experience better.

These guys do not answer the phone, and will not answer emails either.
Their pricing is pretty good, my wife and I have been trying to buy a home from them, but they will not contact us back despite dozens of attempts to reach them. I shouldn’t have to put in all this effort simply attempting to be a client.

We’ve given up attempting to contact them, and I struggle to imagine what the buying process would be like with a company that can’t even answer my phone call or email when trying to buy.

Give these people a bonus! Kevin & Angela obviously work 24/7 regarding customer care! During a stormy weekend - Tropical Storm Lee- they reached out to loan us a generator while in the midst of their own storm damaged property clean up. Who does that these days? Incredible 😀 thank you!

We couldn't be happier with the service from Citadel Homes. We had a site visit the same week we picked our new Mini Home. Eric was prompt, fast, courteous and professional - he is quick to return our calls, and was genuinely as excited as we were about the whole project. Christi and Rachelle were equally as awesome, helping to get all the paper in order for our bank and making sure everything was in order. We are so impressed with the great customer service, we recommended that our son and his family go see them to pick our their modular home - which they did! Looking forward to our May delivery. We would highly recommend Citadel Homes - give them a try!

The team at Citadel Homes was amazing to deal with! They showed us their model homes and they were very helpful in explaining the process of buying a home through them. We didn't end up buying a home for the time being as our circumstances have changed.
