Our family has been purchasing Gaylord Hardwood Flooring for decades now. Not only is it a lovely, locally owned Canadian store but the service is amazing. Top quality flooring, I tell all of my clients to purchase their hardwood flooring here! There are so many choices and a variety of price ranges to make it affordable for many. I recently purchased white oak hardwood on sale for my home and it was stunning and was half off from what we thought we were going to have to spend! Cannot recommend the Gaylord family and their store enough!

I bought a mid century bungalow to retire and it needed floors from one end to the other. Gaylord flooring had this beautiful hickory narrow strip flooring that was so affordable! I love the variety of colour from the wood and it is super hard as well. I have 3 large grand dogs and the finish is perfect for hiding the few marks that have happened!

I highly recommend Gaylord Hardwood Flooring. Their products and service are amazing. We were told by many “top” hardwood flooring manufacturers and installers that we could not install hardwood over radiant heat or they wouldn’t warranty the work if they did. Greg had zero issues because he stands by his product. He provided us with solid advice and we installed beautiful quarter sawn white oak flooring. He even found us a local installer to help us out. We found some old samples of the competitors’ flooring and just laughed at the difference. Absolutely no comparison to the quality of Gaylord’s. We will work with them again for all future hardwood projects.

I'm going to break my thoughts on Gaylord Hardwood Flooring down into several parts to make it more cogent.

1. The People and Process.
I have rarely encountered a company so excellent to do business with. I built a weird house, largely myself, and it was quite a long process. I first contacted GHF in the costing process to prepare documents for a construction loan. By the time I actually received the floors several years had passed. During that time we changed our minds on the exact floor finish a few times, pushed delivery dates at least twice, added stairs and trim products, and just generally bugged Greg and his team to no end. They remained helpful, flexible, friendly, and supportive at all times. Their patience truly was amazing

2. The Floors.
I was first attracted to GHF because they seemed to take white oak very seriously. As a Master Distiller running the largest Distillery in Georgia, I also take white oak very seriously. It took my wife and I quite some time and lots samples to decide on the final floor but in the end we could not be more pleased. One tip I will pass on is that you really need to see your sample in the space once your windows are installed. Modern low E windows have varying degrees of greenish tint and they shift the color of the floor finish quite a bit. GHF sent me samples of everything and let us change our mind without being annoyed at all the extra work.

The floor finish (BLONDE 1850) is perfect and has been super durable. The most astonishing thing is how incredibly stable the floors are. They stretch from outer wall to outer wall (54 ft) in places with no intermediary expansion gap and look exactly like when I laid them. That's saying a lot as we heat exclusively with a woodstove in the basement which creates a very dry very warm (78+) environment in the winter. In the summer it is cool with AC but our HVAC actually went down for a week in July right after we moved in. The house reached the upper 80s and very humid during that time. The floors did not swell or buckle.

3. Delivery and Installation.
GHW sent a truck with the floors and the driver helped me unload it. It was about 2000 sq ft of boards. They were mostly long boards and all in great shape. They were easy to install, we glued and nailed them as recommended. The pieces that I had left over I ended up using as the backboard for the stair treads, which Gaylord also supplied me (at a discount!).

I really cannot say enough about how positive my experience with Gaylord Hardwood Flooring was, I wholeheartedly recommend them!

We've had our floors for 10 years and they look like the day they were installed. We travelled to Tweed to see the showroom before buying. The showroom is large and well designed - all of their regular and specialty flooring in context and with regular indoor lighting. The service there was great. The installation team was efficient and professional. They took the time to explain proper care and cleaning, and dispel some wood floor myths. New visitors to the house always ask about the floor, it looks fantastic.

Met the family earlier this month while they were on a trip to the races. Incredibly nice family and could tell how passionate they are about the business and their family. Shared some food and some goodie bags. If ever I needed flooring I know I would be well taken care of by them!! Highly recommend!

We met Gaylord Flooring over a decade ago when they installed a floor with a maple border in our family room at our last house and so when we were ready for the next project in the new (old) house, we knew who to call straight away.

When I connected with Kelsey, she took me through the pros/cons of engineered vs natural plank. We had done our own research and were leaning towards 3/4” thick and 8” wide hardwood plank but were stuck on the possibility of ‘cupping’ that so (so) many folks were fear mongering us on. Our designer, another flooring company, a popular large kitchen fabricator were all warning us to avoid real wood, wide plank.

We asked Kelsey to give us names of builders who work with their wide plank product and had a great conversation with a builder who builds homes in the Hamptons. That region also experiences temperature fluctuations between seasons and his confidence with the way Gaylord cuts the wood - sealed the decision for us: wide plank, natural 3/4” white oak with Beach Sand stain.

We have just gone thru an Ottawa winter and there was some minimal contraction. Minimal. Nothing like the exaggerated fears that we were told.

Thank you Kelsey (and Gaylord) for your patience and support as we worked our way to the best option for our project: white oak , 3/4” thick, 8” wide plank. We LOVE our floors!

Sincerely, R&B Howes
The Howes House Project

PS. We used an installer that often works with the Gaylord product. They did a great (quick) job.
