What a great place to relax. The Penny's are fantastic hosts that cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. Make sure to give yourself lots of time when taking the ferry however. Unbelievable scenery filled with icebergs, growlers, and bergie bits.

Joan has a lovely home. She was very accommodating as we arrived early. Placed our groceries and bags inside and went off exploring. Would recommend and would go back in a heartbeat.

We stayed two nights in 15A and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was warm, cozy, well-lit, nicely furnished, very clean, and perfectly situated on the island. And at $100 per night, it was also a great deal. Joan was a wonderful, kind, and generous host during our recent trip; she was extremely welcoming and she gave us excellent advice for exploring. When we go back to Fogo Island in the future (and we will!), we'll be sure to go back to Penney's Vacation Home.

House is clean but very rundown, only enough chairs dishes and cutlery for 4 people. Nothing extra in this place. Bed frame collapsed several times had to place boards to prevent it from continually happening. The host was a beautiful kind woman.

I can't say enough good things about this place and the hosts, Joan and Max.

The place is in a beautiful setting overlooking the ocean. 'Nan's house', where we stayed, is well renovated inside with the upstairs floor kept as it was as a reminder of the 'good old days'. When it got a bit hot inside we opened the patio door to let a sea breeze blow thru(no shortage of fresh air in these parts!!).

Joan and max went the extra mile and saved our bacon by sorting out the confusion over the ferries. Without them we would have missed our day trip to Change I. because the place to line up for it was quite poorly marked. They got the boat crew to wait until they went back and fetched us from the wrong line-up!! Beat that for service! Then, that evening, Joan pointed out that the next morning's ferry left at 10 AM, not 11 as the printed schedule said, and made several phone calls to confirm.

We will be recommending this place to any friends and family who are thinking of going to Fogo. e likewise recommend it to you. Who needs a big fancy hotel when you can stay at Penney's place?

the cottage was clean . I had booked a queen sized bed and when we arrived I was told the room we booked was given to someone else ...she said the other guest had leg problems and required the extra room .....THAT is WHY I booked the queen sized for myself in ADVANCE , I also have that same problem ..could not find another accommodation on the island with a queen given that late date .. she said she would give us 1 free ride into town to make up for it and when my traveling companion took her up on that , her husband charged him 10 bucks for the free ride .the SHOWER was Horrible ...it was small yes but the fact you could NOT adjust the shower head meant the water was in your FACE or in the back of your head I had to rinse myself with a dipper ! . being there is NO taxi or reliable shuttle service on the island this cottage was too far away from the brimstone festival if you intend to have a few drinks .
