I rented an apartment (22 Touchstone court) from this company for 1.5 years and never caused any issues. Despite this, they did not return my $800 deposit, even though I painted the walls to the original color and thoroughly cleaned the unit. For 1.5 months, they didn’t respond to my emails and finally sent me a response saying:

“I understand you attempted to paint some of the unit, as well as clean it. Unfortunately, the paint nor the cleaning were to our standards, and we were forced to repaint the unit at a cost of $725 + HST, as well as send in another staff member to finish cleaning the unit so that we could put it back on the market.
• Cleaning services in HRM approx. $40 per hour for 2 hours
• Remember that you broke your lease in the process. That said, we will not pursue obtaining additional money from you, however the damage deposit will be kept in full to contribute to our cost that went above the total amount of your deposit.”

I notified them three months in advance that I was returning to Ukraine due to family circumstances (as permitted by the lease), and I even found several replacement tenants myself, providing six different options. They initially assured me that the deposit would be returned after an inspection. And they chose the people I found for the rental immediately after I moved out.

This was a very unpleasant experience, and I hope this review is helpful or serves as a warning to others.
