Ontario law caps the cost of a condo status certificate at $100 (including HST). Yet the board/property manager forces owners to use an online system that tacks on another ~$40 ‘convenience fee.’ It’s not optional, so you’re effectively forced to pay 40% more than the law allows. I’ve confirmed with the Condominium Act that this is not how it’s supposed to work. It feels like a cash grab. If you want to pay the legal $100, you have to go through a manual process with a cheque, which they make as inconvenient as possible. Owners and buyers deserve better.

They double charged me for a Status Certificate and when disputed claimed that there was no error. They have proceeded to continue to denied the fact that they have charged and accepted payment from two separate credit cards for the same request. Customer service is unavailable, I have now emailed them to wait even longer for them to correct their own error.
