Urchin Management took over our buildings in 2023, January. Given the current housing situation and the unknown rental pricing, I was very scared when I got the news. I’m a single household income and with the rising costs in Halifax, things have been tight. Myself and the other tenants in my building were pretty blindsided by the switch. That said, it was easy to communicate my concerns with Elena and her team. They worked with me to best accommodate my current situation and I’m forever grateful for that. Although I wasn’t required to sign a new lease, I felt they offered me more in the first month than the original owner did in the previous years. It’s a family owned business, lots of history here. Everyone plays an important part within their company. Understanding that Urchins position is to manage the building, unfortunately some property owners don’t want to pay for upgrades or issues you may be facing in your homes. I had a major issue with the carpet in one of my bedrooms, the previous owner promised he’d replace when I moved in - it never happened. Although Urchin wasn’t able to replace the carpet, Elena went above and beyond to help me find a solution. Elena worked with me on other concerns I had and I’m grateful. I try to do my best to understand others, and be honest and open communicating my concerns. I’ve had my best experience with Elena, Holly, Blythe and the handy man.
We recently had a scare with our building and the property manager arrived on site as soon as the emergency vehicles arrived. Blythe was conversing that week and we all had great things to say about her support during that matter. Overall, it’s been a good experience. I love my home and I’m very happy with Urchin since they’ve taken over.

Urchin is such a suitable name for this company.

As a tenant we had them take over as a our property management company, but didn't take into account any of the details that we had discussed with the previous management company.

We had arranged to move out with the landlord between company's and Urchin took advantage of that. There was damage to floor due to poor installation that was report early on, but Urchin put the blame on us. They had no sense of communication with tenants, and just sent generic emails to do as they need.

During the final inspection they never mentioned anything that would be withheld from the damage deposit and asked questions that tenants shouldn't be responsible for informing a property management company about, ex. "Where the mailbox is?", "How many keys?" and "Parking locations?"

Overall, they are just another company looking to strip a dime off of both tenants and landlords, by pointing blame with little knowledge of buildings themselves.

2024 Update:
It's been four years now that I have called Garshan Road my home. I am still very happy here and would encourage anyone who is looking for an incredibly well maintained building, to give this one consideration. Jean is still cleaning our building like it is her own livingroom. The tenants are very friendly. I have worked with the office staff, (thank you Holly) on my lease renewal and they are kind and professional.
This little gem is still tucked away by Shubie Park in a quiet residential area. It maintains my original Five Star rating. Thank you once again.

2022 Review:
This last year, Elizabeth has been a dream to work with, she is helpful, professional and very positive. I renewed my lease today with Blythe and she was very nice to deal with as well. Urchin hires incredible people, bravo.
Tom and Jean are incredible supers. The building is maintained to a very high standard which makes me proud to walk through the doors. The building is decorated beautifully for the holidays and I so appreciate all the time and effort that Tom invested in our space.
I am so very happy in my apartment, I was so fortunate to find this gem, thank you so much.

Being someone who's rented in the city for years. Urchin properties is by far the best company I've dealt with. Friendly, efficient and attentive. Visiting their office is always a fun experience and their property mangers are great. The buildings themselves (40 Rose Street) are well maintained, cleaned and very safe. I would highly recommend renting from them to anyone. 5 stars

I lived at one of Urchin’s properties in downtown Dartmouth for 2 years and I can honestly say that’s it the best property management company I’ve ever dealt with by a mile. Super responsive, super professional, and extremely reasonable in almost all aspects. I only moved out because I found a place closer to work. Special shout out to Elena & Holly - best in the biz.

We have lived in this building 22 High Street for 10 years. During that time the original owner made very few upgrades or repairs to the building and sold it a couple of years ago.
Since Urchin Property Management took over the care of the building just after the beginning of this year, there has been many improvements and upgrades.
They are prompt with maintenance issues and any concerns we have had. The staff are friendly and courteous.

Rented an apartment with this company for several years now. Have had a couple of low key emergencies that were dealt with swiftly by management (equipment not working, leaking water, etc). Response for minor repairs has historically been slower, but seems to be improving. Building is secure, laundry is card operated (a star is lost because the number of washer/dryers has decreased with the switch to card from coin), and interactions with staff has always been pleasant. I would recommend renting from this company if able to.
